BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

The endemic mammals of the park are the Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck and the world’s rarest canine, the Semien Red Fox, more common here than in the Semien Mountains. The Park has a variety of endemic rodents of which the Giant Molerat is the most notable.You could also see here up to ten of the country’s 30 or so endemic birds of which there are 835 (Africa’s largest number) in total. The more common ones are: the Blue-winged Goose, Thick-billed Raven, Black-headed Siskin, Spot-throated Plover and Rouget’s Rail.
